Gay - LGTB Pride Parade in Madrid

Madrid Gay Pride (Orgullo Gay) is an international gig with similar parades taking places in cities across Europe (Paris, Berlin, etc.) on the same day.

The event kicks off with an inaugural festival in Chueca (a city district were most of the gay shops, cafes and bars and some smaller clubs are located), followed by a round of discussions, debates and other events in the week which leads up to the parade and party.  An awards ceremony bestows Pink Triangles upon those who have assisted in the advancement of gay rights, and Pink Bricks upon those who have hindered it.

Gay Madrid

Madrid is full of sights, museums and world-renowned art galleries either.  Not surprisingly Madrid has become an insider tip for party guys from all over Europe.

You should know that very progressive laws of gay marriage and anti-discrimination were approved by Spain's government and parliament in 2005.

The Gay/LGTB Parade 2008 in Madrid is running on July 5th.

From 28th June to 6th July, Madrid celebrates the "Pride Week".

From 10th June to 20th July, the "Festival Visible" (COGAM International LGTB Culture Festival) runs in Madrid and other surroundings cities.

The 2008 leit-motiv / subject is: "Por la visibilidad lésbica". Acknowledgement of lesbian women’s struggle will be highlighted.

Chueca

The party at night takes places in the best-known gay area in the city, Chueca. This neighbourhood (barrio) is downtown Madrid, just off Gran Vía. You can get there easily by Metro (Line 5, Chueca Metro station).

Don´t expect to find just gay people there. Those nights a lot of straight people party in Chueca with the gay community.

Hundreds of gay-oriented businesses, including bars, coffee-houses, restaurants, design shops, clubs, and clothe shops are available. Chueca has found a new lease of life in recent years, with the gay population investing money in local business and property.
